| | | | | Alone we make a dent…Together we make a difference By working together, we can cut the supply and demand for diverted product. Mass retailers are less likely to carry a product when they can't rely on a steady supply—and that means less diverted product will be placed on the shelves.
To help fight diversion, John Paul Mitchell Systems has… - Entered into non-diversion contracts with distribution partners
- Imposed significant per bottle fines on distributors when product belonging to them is found in unauthorized locations
- Set new limits on distributor store transactions
- Added enhanced security coding on all products
- Cut off distributors and salons diverting products and taken legal action against them
Product Control DownloadsTo help make your product control efforts more effective than ever, we've created several materials you can use to talk with clients, share the story with local media and notify mass retailers carrying diverted products of your awareness of their activity. They feed the pipeline that places professional salon products on the shelves of mass retailers and other unauthorized outlets. Collectors are excellent at what they do, and usually have an attractive financial offer. It may seem innocent enough, but their goal is to take the product—and the profits—away from the salon. They will try to contact salons in person, on the phone and through e-mail.What can salons do?Salons can help cut supply to unauthorized outlets and, at the same time, educate clients on the importance of buying professional products in the salon.
Here are ways you can get involved: - Refuse to sell to collectors. These diverters resell to unauthorized outlets like drugstores, grocery stores and Internet sites.
- Educate fellow stylists about what they can do to stop diversion.
- Display product control POP in high-traffic areas such as the reception desk, waiting area and restroom.
- Talk with clients about the risks, dangers and added expenses of using counterfeit or diverted products. Use the client dialog tips offered in the Product Control Action Kit.
- Call the Product Control Hotline to report suspicious activity at 1-888-398-8884.
What is some dialogue I can use with clients?- Paul Mitchell is only guaranteed when sold by a professional hair salon.
- Paul Mitchell products purchased in a drug store, grocery store, through the Internet or at any other unauthorized outlet may be old, stolen, counterfeit, diverted or tampered with.
- Counterfeit hair care products were independently analyzed and found to have dangerously high levels of bacteria and other impurities-enough to make you sick. (Source: FOX News, June 10, 2003 and independent laboratory analysis)
- Clients buy product at mass retailers because they think it's a deal-but it's usually a steal. Diverted product changes so many hands it's usually more expensive in a discount, grocery or drug store than at the salon. (Source: FOX News, June 10, 2003)
